JULIE SOUTHERN - CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER


Julie Southern is Chief Financial Officer for Virgin Atlantic Airways. She is the senior executive responsible for Finance, IT, Cargo, Legal, Risk and Insurance, Procurement including aircraft, Group Finance and Facility Services.

Julie joined Virgin Atlantic in July 2000 as Executive Director Finance and was then appointed CFO in October 2000 and had the difficult task of significantly reshaping the airline in the aftermath of September 11.


Prior to working for Virgin Atlantic, Julie was Group Finance Director for Porsche Cars Great Britain and AFN (a separate Limited Company run independently from PCGB retailing from six Dealerships based in the South West). At PCGB and AFN she held responsibility for Financial Reporting and Planning, Information Technology and Human Resources across both Importer and Retailer operations. PCGB and AFN had a combined turnover of £335m. Julie also worked as Acting Managing Director for both PCGB and AFN during this time.

Julie started her career as a graduate trainee with Mars before training as a chartered accountant with PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Julie then moved on to WH Smith subsidiary HJ Chapman Co Ltd as Finance and Operations Director, with responsibility for Finance, IT, Facilities Management and Warehousing Operations, before starting at PCGB in 1996.

Julie received a BA Economics from Cambridge University.
