DEMONSTRATION FLIGHT USING A BIOFUEL BLENDOn 24 February 2008, Virgin Atlantic became the first airline in the world to operate a commercial aircraft on a biofuel blend. "Sir Richard Branson's commitment to invest all of his future proceeds from Virgin Atlantic and other Virgin transportation companies into renewable energy initiatives and other projects to tackle emissions related to global warming, is groundbreaking. Together with Virgin Atlantic's biofuel demo and push for more efficient aircraft this is the sort of initiative the airline industry needs at a time when emissions from this sector are growing at nearly 4% a year." Steve Howard, CEO, The Climate Group, June 2007 |
